Fun Made Simple

I do enjoy how easily amused Jonathan can get by the little things. Perhaps we have started an epidemic but, with the exception of the kitchen sink, we have not child proofed our kitchen and boy oh boy does Jonathan know where the action is at! The utensil drawers are the first place he heads for in the morning, afternoon, and evening hours. He'll take just about everything he can get his hands on and drop them on the floor. Then he'll sit down, look at a few of them, bang some together, maybe place them in his mouth for a quick taste test and he's up again to find more fun items. He pulls out the bottom 3 drawers and uses them as leverage to boost himself up and stand, which has occasionally resulted in jammed fingers, but he's really aware of the fact that the drawers do move. We've removed all of the harmful items, apple slicer and pizza cutter, but there really isn't anything that he can get into trouble with. I think the best part is that having kitchen utensils strewed throughout the kitchen floor drives Josh insane, so when Jonathan decides to play with other toys Josh is right behind him picking up the mess. This is a cause and effect because when Jonathan hears the clinking in the kitchen it causes him to return and dig everything back out again!! I'm the organizational freak in our family so it's odd that Jonathan's mess doesn't bother me. Perhaps a pint-sized kitchen set is what Jonathan needs for his birthday! Only time will tell...
